The Charm of Units I -- The Conjecture of Kummer and Vandiver

Résumé :
We show how the reputed lambda-Conjecture of Greenberg implies the Kummer - Vandiver Conjecture, and time allowing, provide a quick sketch of the proof of Greenberg's lambda Conjecture for the p-cyclotomic field.
Additional results in Iwasawa and class field theory can be discussed with interested
persons in the days from wednesday to friday of the same week.
