As a special case of Thurston's construction, mapping classes given by the product of two multi-twists of opposite sign are pseudo-Anosov. We will show that all eigenvalues of the corresponding homological action are real and strictly positive, consider applications of this eigenvalue allocation and contrast it with the case where the two multi-twists are of the same sign.
