The accessory parameter problem in positive characteristic.

The goal of this talk is to classify differential equations in positive characteristic which admit a polynomial solution. In the case of differential equations whose local monodromy matrices are all nilpotent, we obtain some rather general results. For example, we determine the possible degrees of the polynomial solution. A motivation for these results comes from the theory of stable reduction of Galois covers of curves.
