Presentation of the laboratory

The Institut Fourier, together with the Laboratoire Jean Kuntzmann (applied maths and computer science), is one of the University Grenoble Alpes's mathematics laboratories. The Mathdoc unit which coordinates the documentation of mathematics for the whole of France is also housed in the same building.

Since its inception under C. Chabauty the Institut Fourier has always been a partner of the CNRS. Today its status is that of Unité Mixte de Recherche (no. 5582).

The research carried out in the laboratory is mainly in pure mathematics although there are links with other scientific disciplines. There are eight research “themes” present, each of which is organised around one or more seminars :

Finally, the Institut Fourier organises a Summer School (Ecole d’été de Mathématiques) covering a different theme every year over three weeks starting at the end of June.
