Eduroam is available across the Imperial College campus.
South Kensington
South Kensington is the district where the main campus of Imperial College lies, and where the conference will take place. It is close to several London attractions, including the
Royal Albert Hall,
Hyde Park
and
Kensington Gardens
to the north, as well as one of the royal residences,
Kensington Palace.
Three major museums, the
Natural History Museum,
the
Science Museum,
and the
Victoria and Albert Museum
are also located here. The area had several famous residents, including
Béla Bartók
(whose sculpture decorates the underground station).
Accommodation
In order to maximize exchanges outside the talks time, we chose a principal accommodation place.
We invite participants to book their room in that place.
The place will be communicated as soon as possible.
Public transportation
London has a very extensive, although rather crowded public transportation system with an excellent
homepage.
If you want to use this system more than once, it is worth buying an
Oyster Card
at one of the underground stations. The two underground stations closest to Imperial College are Gloucester Road and South Kensington.
Money
The currency in the United Kingdom is GBP (pound sterling, symbol: £).
The approximate currency rate is: £1 ≈ €1.16 or ≈$1.29. See the
currency converter
for up-to-date rates.
There are exchange booths near Gloucester Road underground station.
Food and coffee
Depending on funding availability we plan to provide a lunch for registered participants.
In addition, there are many restaurants and coffee shops on Gloucester Road (on the west) and on Old Brompton Road (to the south), especially in the vicinity of the two underground stations. There are restaurants, coffee shops and high street shopping on High Street Kensington (on the north), too.
