From affine manifolds to complex manifolds.

I will talk about recent work with Bernd Siebert intended to
gain a deeper understanding of mirror symmetry. I will explain
the relationship between affine manifolds (real manifolds with
transition maps being affine linear) and mirror symmetry, and
try to outline our construction of a degeneration of Calabi-Yau
manifolds given an integral affine manifold.
