Conference location
The conference will be held in the following holiday resort :
VVF Villages "Lac et Montagne", Quai Paul
Léger, 74500 Evian, France
Phone :
04 50 83 17 00 (from abroad :
+33 4 50 83 17 00)
The VVF is located near the lake shore, about 800 m. away from the
harbor and 2,5
km away from the train station. If you have to find the place by
yourself, the following
map of Evian
might be useful. The train station (A1-B1), the harbor (C1-D1) and the
VVF (D1-E1) are clearly
indicated.
How to come by train (and bus)
WARNING : Important information
The
train (TER 96524) which was supposed to
leave Lyon Part Dieu at 13:04 on Monday, June 8 and to bring the
participants in
Bellegarde at 14:24 has been suppressed on short notice. It is replaced
by a bus leaving Lyon Part Dieu at 12:52 and arriving in Bellegarde at
14:22. For this reason, participants coming from Paris have been
advised to take the train at 9:54 instead of 10:54, in order to catch
the 12:52 bus in Lyon. Now, after being informed of our conference, the
SNCF decided to charter an additional bus, which will leave Lyon
Part Dieu at the same schedule as the original train (13:04) and is
supposed to arrive in Bellegarde around 14:30. So it seems possible
again to reach Bellegarde on time for the special bus (see below) even
if you take the train at 10:54 in Paris, although it is definitely
safer to take the train at 9:54 if possible. In any case, please inform the organizers.
Special bus from Bellegarde to Evian :
Since the
train service between Bellegarde and Evian is not very efficient, the
organizers have reserved a
special
bus which will run on the following schedule :
- On Monday, June 8th the bus will leave Bellegarde
(train station) at 14:30 and bring the participants directly to the VVF
in Evian. The expected arrival time in Evian is 16:15.
- On Friday, June 12th the bus will leave the VVF in
Evian at 14:30 and bring the participants to the station in Bellegarde.
The expected arrival time in Bellegarde is 16:15.
Please
note : This bus is free of charge, but has
limited capacity. If you want to use it, you must reserve your seat. Please
indicate if you intend to use the bus when filling the online
registration form. Alternatively, you can reserve your seat by sending
an email to
the
organizers, but
not later
than May 11th.
From Paris :
On Monday, June 8
th most participants are expected to
take a train at 10:54 in Paris (Gare de Lyon) and to arrive in
Bellegarde at 14:24 (after, unfortunately, a change in Lyon-Part-Dieu). A special bus (see above) will transport them
directly to the VVF in Evian.
On Friday, June 12
th the bus will leave Evian at 14:30 and
arrive in Bellegarde around 16:15. A train will leave Bellegarde at
16:41 and arrive in Paris at 19:43.
If you come earlier or later in the day, it is possible to go all the way from
Paris to Evian by train :

How to come by plane
The closest airport is
Geneva's International
Airport, which is connected by direct flights to all the major
cities in Europe, and is also one of the main hubs of the
EasyJet low cost airline. To
get from Geneva's airport to Evian, the most convenient solution is to
take a train (directly at the airport) to Lausanne, and then to cross
over the lake of Geneva (see below). There are several trains per hour
between Geneva's airport and Lausanne, see the
Swiss Railways Website. Here is the
timetable for a typical one-hour period in the middle of the day :

The fare for a one-way ticket from Geneva's airport to Lausanne is 25
CHF (approx. 16,5 EUR).
How to come by boat
A brief look at a map of France shows that this is a natural way
to get to Evian. Navigation on the lake of Geneva is mainly touristic
(see the
CGN Website), but the boat
service between Lausanne and Evian is quite efficient in the
summer. This is a good solution if you arrive at Geneva's airport (see
above), or if you come by train through Switzerland (this will
typically be the case if you come from Dijon, Besançon,
Strasbourg, Metz or Nancy).
From the main station in Lausanne, you first have to get to Lausanne's
harbor (Ouchy). If you leave the station through the main hall and
cross the street, you will find a brand new subway which will carry you to Ouchy. It is also possible to
walk downhill (using a "steepest descent algorithm") and to reach
the harbor in about 20 min.

The fare for a one-way ticket from Lausanne-Ouchy to Evian-les-Bains is
18.20 CHF (approx. 12 EUR).
Getting from the landing stage in Evian-les-Bains to the VVF "Lac et
Montagne" is easy. Just walk for 10 min. along the
lake in the direction of East, and the VVF will be on your right, on
the other side of the street. You may consult the
map of Evian, where the harbor (C1-D1) and
the VVF (D1-E1) are indicated.
How to come by car
You will certainly arrive from the West, via Douvaine and
Thonon-les-Bains. After entering Evian, just follow the main street
which goes along the lake, until you reach the center (Casino).
Continue along the lake for 1,2 km and the VVF will be on your right.
The main entrance, however, is uphill on "Avenue des Grottes". See the
map of Evian.
How to come from Geneva by bus or
train
If for any reason you arrive at Geneva's main station (Cornavin), you
may take a train to Lausanne and then a boat to Evian (see above). You
may also get there by bus, see the timetable
here.
A third posibility is to go to the small train station "Genève
Eaux-Vives" (use tramway nb. 16 from Cornavin to Amandollier SNCF) and
to take there a train to Evian, see the
SNCF Website or the
Swiss Railways Website for more
information.
