We show that a version of knot contact homology gives a complete knot invariant. We then discuss the relation of knot contact homology with low-dimensional topology and topological physics. We will in particular give a holomorphic curve proof of the skein relation for the HOMFLY polynomial. The talk reports on joint work with Ng and Shende.
