The subject is Algebraic Topology, more precisely Fundamental Algebraic Topology, that is, those problems directly araisen by the classification problem of arbitrary spaces.
Audience:
This summer school is intended for
young researchers, graduate and post-graduate students having a
"beginner" knowledge of traditional background: elementary homological
algebra, elementary simplicial or singular homology.
Week 1:
The first week will be devoted to basic
notions: CW-topology and simplicial sets, basic homological algebra
(spectral sequences included), additional structures (algebra,
coalgebra,...), simplicial, singular, cellular and De Rham
(co)homologies, fibrations, homotopy groups, Postnikov and Whitehead
towers. Furthermore a series of survey lectures about the
classification problem in algebraic topology will be given by Hans
Baues (Bonn, Max-Planck-Institut).
Weeks 2 and 3:
During the two other weeks, more
advanced lectures will be given by various speakers. The following
lecturers will participate:
Housing:
Participants will be housed at
student halls of residences, near
the Fourier Institute and also in hotels for listeners who wish it.
Lunch and dinner can be taken at the university restaurants of the campus.
Registration fees: 300FF to be payed by cheque to the order of "Agent comptable de l'Université Joseph Fourier".
Financial support:
Housing expenses in student
halls of residences might be borne by the Fourier
Institute, according to applications and resources of concerned
people. Meals must be paid by participants. If necessary,
participants are required to find a financial support for travel; in
particular cases, a specific help request could be sent to the Fourier
Institute; solutions will be studied according to available funds.
Registration:
Send a mail to one of the addresses
below to ask for an application form.
